Loss Resources on the Web A Listing for Community Broadcasters Compiled by Barry Rueger rueger@community-media.com This list was compiled from information received from participants in the acoustic-ecology Soundscape list and from the hs-canada Occupational Health and Safety list. It's not exhaustive, but it should answer most questions about high sound levels and hearing damage. I've arranged them from least to most technical. It's Your Health A Health Canada site that looks at hearing loss WISE EARS! A U.S. campaign to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. Hearnet An industry oriented American site which has many resources - a good starting point. A Guide to Noise in the Music Entertainment Industry (December 1998) An Australian handbook in PDF format aimed at people working in the Music industry. NATIONAL HEARING CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION Lots of good technical links. OSHA Health and Safety Guidelines the American standards The Fletcher/Munson "equal loudness" curves. They're based on data collected by Bell Labs in the 1930's, and describe how our hearing balances loudness and frequency response. |
