This workshop is geared towards individuals or groups who are interested in establishing a non-profit corporation. It is primarily intended to provide an overview of the process of getting a new group off the ground successfully. Although we will touch on legal issues, this is not primarily a discussion of non-profit or charitable law.

This workshop will cover a number of topics.

• What is a non-profit organization, and why would you need one?
• What are the things that a non-profit can do, that an individual or business cannot?
• What is the difference between a non-profit and a charity?
• What are the essential elements of a non-profit – members, a
• Board of Directors, a Mission Statement, Bylaws.

We'll discuss in detail some of the most important considerations when starting a new organization:

• Why are you doing this? What is your Mission Statement?
• Who will be your members, and what will their role be within the organization?
• Your Board of Directors - how large should it be, and who should be on it?
• What do you need in your bylaws?
• Important meetings and processes
• Banking and bookkeeping

As well as looking at some of the forms that you will need to complete, we will talk about some specific concerns:

• How big will your group become, and how fast?
• How will decisions be made?
• How to maintain control, or how to effectively share power with your members.
• Conflicts of Interest

As always, there will be room for discussion, group activities, and questions. This workshop is primarily aimed at people with little or no background in this area.

This workshop is regularly scheduled, with a minimum of ten participants at $95 each, or your group can host it for a flat fee. Contact us for details.
